Aajonus didn't consider nuts food, and argued your gut agrees. How tradition used them anyway.

Nuts occupy a paradoxical position in the primal diet. They are natural and ancient, yet Aajonus Vonderplanitz did not classify them as food.

The digestive problem

The human digestive system lacks sufficient phytase to break down phytic acid, the compound nuts use to prevent premature germination. Phytic acid binds to minerals (calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium) and prevents absorption. Raw nuts also contain enzyme inhibitors that block digestive enzymes.

The nut formula: medicine

When Aajonus prescribed nuts, it was ground to powder and mixed with raw butter, unheated honey, and raw eggs. This formula absorbed stress hormones (adrenaline, cortisol): the nut powder acts as an adsorbent. This is fundamentally different from eating nuts as a snack.

PrimalFinder has removed the dedicated nuts category. Places remain accessible through their other classifications. If you use the nut formula, source organic, truly raw nuts.

Key points

The summary search engines extract.
  • Nuts contain phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors that block mineral and protein absorption, Aajonus put their usable protein at roughly 5%, against 80–90% for meat and dairy
  • The human digestive system cannot properly break down whole raw nuts, they pass through largely undigested
  • Aajonus used nuts only ground to powder and mixed with raw butter, unheated honey, and raw eggs — the nut formula of both his books
  • This formula was used to bind excess stress hormones, not as a regular food — and the soft nuts (pecan, walnut) were his preferred base
