Price's fourteen cultures
Swiss villagers, Gaelic fishers, African herders: the common thread running through every plate.

Price's fourteen cultures could not have eaten more differently: Alpine cheese and rye, Hebridean fish and oats, the milk-and-blood of African herders. What they shared was not a food but a quality: dense in the fat-soluble vitamins, and innocent of refined flour and sugar.
The natural experiment ran itself. Where the refined food arrived, the strong jaws and clear faces did not survive the second generation.
